Boys Brigade will be visiting us on 14 February

Also, there is a Religious Architecture Project from the University of Ulster.

The project aims to investigate how teenage children from different religious backgrounds perceive certain elements of place, religion and identity, in particular, how they interpret the spatial layout of religious buildings and perceive the relationship between the space and the religion itself.  20 children (4 from each religious background) will be taken to one architectural example of religion.  By means of conversation, drawing and photography, the young people will be encouraged to represent and discuss the space.

We need 4 people to come and participate in the project. It will be on for 3 days.

  • Saturday 13th February
  • Saturday 20th February
  • Saturday 27th February
from 10am to 2pm.

If you are interested, please let us now as soon as possible!

Junior Fitness and Fun!

For ages 8 - 12

The gym is specifically designed for these ages so that it is safe for them to get stronger and have fun too!

The gym and the swimming was good and I enjoyed myself and I would like it to happen again and again. I would also like more sport.

Burhan Ahmed

I thought the gym was good because we did weights which was fun. The swimming pool was really big, the slide was fun.

Pupils and teachers from St. Rose's attended our Eid-Ul-Adha prayer at the Ozone Leisure centre.

Below are some details about St. Rose's. Any muslim who wishes to attend their open day is very welcome.

St. Rose’s is an all ability, all girl school Roman Catholic school under the trusteeship of the Domincan Sisters.  We have a very strong Catholic faith-based ethos, but we welcome girls from other faiths.  At present we have a group of Muslim girls attending the school and it is our aim to help them to feel included in our community as well as to offer them opportunities to progress on their own faith journey.  We have tried to do this by arranging a quiet place for daily prayers, and by making available copies of the Qur’an and prayer mats.  We are now offering a programme of study for Key Stage 3 Religious Education and GCSE Islamic Studies.  The Muslim girls are free to wear the hijab and the school uniform has been altered according to requirements.

The teachers in St. Rose’s have a great amount of experience of teaching international students and experience in supporting students who have English as an additional language.

19.06.2009 11:04:39

I phoned Colin today to verify meeting times, transport, etc.

He says the Duke of Ed. Training day is not happening due to people not communicating with him.

No one gave him a phone call or email or anything except very few people (i.e. Me.)...

I told him I was contacting everyone to make sure the meeting and training day would go ahead as planned. His reply was that he didn't know I was doing this, nevertheless people should be committed to coming to the regular meetings.

If you've signed up for DofE, then it's your responsibility to come to all the meetings. If for any reason you can't come, then it's just manners to send an email or call to Colin letting him know you're not coming.

The meetings are spread out with quite a gap between each meeting (~2 weeks). Therefore it's up to you to organise your time so that the day of the meeting is 'booked'. Nevertheless there's really no excuse for not contacting him with an apology other than pure laziness. If you're lazy then you really should not have applied in the first place.

Colin says we'll reschedule everything again in September and he regrets cancelling the training day this Sunday but he was left with no choice.

The DofE award scheme is really all about determination. At it's most basic level, it's the determination to come to the meetings or at least send an apology.

The meeting has been cancelled.

 Belfast City Council

Salam,

There will be a meeting with another youth group called Belfast City Council Youth Forum (BCCYF) on Saturday 20 June 2009 (this saturday).

There will be around 5 people from BCCYF coming to the Belfast Islamic Centre on this saturday. Their ages are from 14-17. If you're interested and would like to come, then please do come... You don't really have to be strictly within this age range but you need to be comfortable in talking with them.

The meeting time is not yet confirmed, but it will be from around 5pm - 7pm. We'll pray Asr there isA.
