Consideration of Residentials for Feb/Match 09
We decided that we would have a residential which would include both fun activities as well as exciting discussions.
We agreed we would go to Share, where there is a well faclitated residential (check www.sharevillage.org). The residential would include things like:
- Climbing
- Orienteering
- Combat coorps
- more
Program suggestions for MYNI for April - June
We agreed that Mobile Team Adventure would come around again and we would organise something with them (check MYNI Adventure Day)
Program for juniors
(March time) We decided that under-12's would enjoy a day at the Leisureplex (Lisburn) swimming complex. The juniors would enjoy the slides etc. We also thought about organising a dry activity before or after the swimming.
Recruitment of Leaders
We discussed having a leader and facilitator from within the Muslim community. All of us agreed that this person does not necessarily have to be involved only in BIC activities, but any Islamic centre based in NI.
Youth club idea (boys and girls evenings)
Although at first this may be a good idea, after discussion, we concluded that the youth group is already too small to be split into girls and boys. We also thought that we'll need an adult to supervise the girls and boys session for every weak, which may not be convenient. We decided that MYNI is still a small community which is building up, and that activities should obey Islamic laws and teachings, but splitting the youth group into two will not be possible.
Feedback of DofE
All of us returned positive feedback
Advertising MYNI
Making pens and other accessories with the MYNI logo would be good advertising. Also, T-shirts with the MYNI logo or jumpers or hoodies als seemed like a good idea.
Walk and talk
We agreed walk and talk would be made on 17-19 April, on a Saturday or Sunday.
Relations with other youth organisations
We decided we needed to organise something for different youth groups who would have liked to visit the BIC. People also suggested going to other youth groups or communities like Corameela. We also realised that the NI youth forum needed a Muslim representitive.
Use of MYNI.org.uk by members
We highlighted that it was crucial that members visited the website. It was suggested that I (Moh) would stop sending text reminders and leave it to the individuals to check the website for themselves.
The images got hundreds of hits but when it came to everything else... Nothing
Although the meeting was good in that we got a lot of work done, we would have loved to see more members as more ideas would only mean better activities.
See you soon,
Mohamed ElTuhamy
